How to train a Bullmastiff puppy to live in a cage.
Many dog owners, professional trainers and veterinarians recommend
dog cages to raise a puppy. The dog crate is a shelter for your pup.
It is the place where he can hide from everyone and feel protected.
The cage for your Bullmastiff is like a "den" for a wild
animal.
There is the most important advantage of cage training that should
be mentioned. When puppies are left alone, and allowed to roam too
large an area, they become anxious, lonely, and bored. By using a
cage, the owner creates positive behavioral patterns which make the
relationship between the pet and his owner to develop.
Advantages of cage using you should
consider:
- You will spare yourself from constant money spending on repair
and replacement of damaged household items. A puppy who has been
successfully cage-trained will prefer its own "den." When the
dog grows it will voluntarily seek out the cage and enter it at
the appropriate times. You as the owner will enjoy the fact that
your pup is quite comfortable and do not damage the house. The
young puppy should not be left in the cage alone longer than 3-4
hours.
- Your pup will develop good habits.
- You won't have to give up a puppy because of not being able to
cope with its behavioral problems.
Useful tips for you:
- First of all you should not feel pity for your puppy. You
should know that you do a real favor for your pet.
- The wire cage is the best one due to good air flow and
visibility.. It is also should be cosy and spacious. For it to
become cosy place soft, washable bedding and chewable toy in the
cage. Never put food into the cage.
- Keep the cage in a semi-private place like kitchen or family
room. There should not be draft or direct heat.
- Before bedtime, place the puppy in the cage and offer him a
treat. Close the door to the cage.
- You should establish a routine. Use the cage for nap times,
and sometimes the puppy should be left alone. The pup will
know what you expect of him at all times.
- Do not be cruel if your pet refuses to enter the cage. It
would be enough if you sharply raise your voice. Your dog will
need some time to get used to the cage. It does not happen from
the first attempt.
